1. I am the villain, not you. (Only Staff, or certain trusted individuals will be allowed to play villains.)
2. We are keeping the setting in modern day, despite wherever we may choose to have things be in the X-Men timeline.
3. We do not want to involve a Mutant Registration Act, or any other common trope of X-Men. That means no Apocalypse (I might have him popup later), no Government Boogiemen (No one wants to play that.), and no Sinister (If I see an absolutely stellar profile... Maybe...) In all cases, they get boring, and are ignored. My plot will be IN YOUR FACE, AND NEEDING TO BE DEALT WITH.
Continuity is open to debate. I know some people might be interested in playing in X-Men Evolution, or one of the other Cartoon continuities, as well as some people might want an entirely new AU.
First I'm on my phone so I apologize for the brief to the point message and weird words.
Second some suggestions:
1) go a all canon or go all au with trusted ppl to play canons like prof. X as supporting roles.
2) choose a spot of beginning not something that has history. It is hard to start in the middle of a story when not everyone will have the same opinions as everyone else.
3) chose at the beginning a clear and easy to read powerscale for everyone to follow and keep all players about equal as to great power and those who want a challenge to play someone with difficulties or lower power get incentives of some kind.
4) make monthly rewards realistic and attainable and do them not leave them the same month after month.
5) all characters should be dynamic not static and shouldn't be able to end the existence of the world in a flick of their fingers or have any overtly talent or power to hurt other players such as pheromones or empathy or telepathy without some clearly defined outcomes and goals in mind. Not everyone is going to have edetic memory or iron will or the ability to absorb or instantly heal damage. Characters shod be fallible mentally socially or physically.
First off, hello everyone. I know I was not very active when I first joined but my life has settled down a bit to a manageable level.
Some suggestions that I would personally like to see, Peter knows of already.
I agree with Joy that the site should be either all Canon or AU. Though there are small ways of skirting around this by making more open site Canons that people can fill with creativity and imagination as long as it goes with the site plot.
I also agree with a plot that starts in the beginning. I know tons of people enjoy actually feeling like they are part of the plot instead of jumping into one that is seemingly already up and going by older members of the site.
There should definitely be restrictions of the power of the characters, like they have to audition for more powerful characters or something. Though there is also the opposite of that, where a person can play the most seemingly weakest character on the entire board. It's a double edged sword that we must be careful of.
And Peter, I do not agree with only the staff playing the villains. I think the staff should have first pick, yes. Though it's also interesting to see new players take off with more powerful villains, it lets others know that characters are not unattainable. Plus *cough* *cough*, some people like to play mentally unstable characters to let off steam and just have fun. Please let me know if I am misunderstanding what you are trying to say Peter.
Anyhoo, I look forward to becoming an active member of this forum. Let's get going.
It begins with a man. A beautiful man. One who has charm, wit, and talent beyond belief. Truly a man worth modeling yourself after. Though you wouldn't be able to copy his undeniable swagger. A man who smells of berries.
1) I agree about choosing either AU or Canon but prefer the former for known reasons.
2) I'm sure you're not going to hit us with gigantic dragons, and then force sentinels on us, and then a Black hole ends the RP. But I feel the need to express a deeper desire to follow an intricate storyline that could potentially acknowledge certain IC actions whether they be specifically in a plot thread or otherwise. Such as the potential for antagonists to enter open threads, or at the very least use them as a basis for their in character actions. Not a new concept but it's out there.
3) Dragons
4)I would also really enjoy a better focus on weaker, more flawed characters working up. An issue that we don't have on this board is members making unreasonable characters, normally. The beginning of the plot should be geared towards strengthening those characters and their relationships. Or at least to an extent if, like Benjamin, they can only do so much.
1-Please no 'admin only baddies' I've had this problem before on other boards and it has never turned out well. People should be free to be evil if they wish, with, like the good guys, restrictions.
2- I personally think we should have a well-flowing, steady plotline that doesn't focus on event after event after event. This shoves the board along too fast, and it's hard to keep track of WTF is happening.
3-I'm begging you here, don't do a mid-plot thing, because that'll make developing characters very difficult and hard to do, especially for potential new members.
4-We need to either go all canon or all AU here, because canonical stuff with AU twists doesn't work well. We need something that'll work for the benefit of all. We need a new START. START not some random spot in a timeline. Again-this won't work well. We need a comprehensive, cohesive storyline that everyone can enjoy and join in without feeling like an outsider with their character.
The model of staff only villains has been attempted in the past and it has not been very successful. When Weapon was at its height we had people playing both sides. The main reason why Weapon died the first time due to unforeseen Staff/admin issues which I fully never understood therefore care not to explain.
Dynamo, you said we need to 'start' but not at some random point. Could you please go into further on this? Are you suggesting we start at the 'beginning' of the X-Men story line?
There has been as suggestion that we go X-Men Evolution, ok... if we do, then do we kick off where it ends? I only have access to the first season of that...
If we go completely AU, we *could* possibly start at the beginning when the Original X-Men first start taking students and go from there?
I'd like to start at like..the beginning. Of Everything so we can have relationships and whatnot. A random timeline isn't always a good thing because then if already dead characters are in said timeline, people lose out on the characters they want the most.
I have it that Hannah's been in the school for 2 years in her profile, but I can probably change that if need be despite the fact I've already written her history. However, I'd like her already to be in the school, but because she's so closed in, she hasn't made friends so, yeah.
So, from what I'm reading, people want to be given the option to play bad guys. They want to go either all Canon or all AU. And there's a vote to have characters (at least OC) start at the 'beginning' of their story. Is that right?
Alright, so, to be comprehensive, before I begin work on plot, since I have the canons in progress, and I will likely blow a blood vessel in my eye before the end of this if I must change anything~
We will be going 'All OC' except for a few key characters. Canons will be allowed, but must be completely scrubbed for their history, and written to fit into the setting, barring the six big positions.
Our new beginning is that ALL students are freshly either beginning a new year of high school in Elsmore high, or have transferred in. Students will have the option of being affiliated with the Xavier preperatory school, or the Brotherhood of the Lost. In both cases, your living accomadations are handled by your faction, and you have extra schooling in more mutant related classes, apart from the high school classes you take.
We will be allowing no mutants to have abilities higher than Beta level. You are here to learn how to use your powers. No one has had formal training with them, and more importantly, none of you have been in the Xavier school or the Brotherhood before this.
Monthly Rewards will be implemented later if they are seen as necessary.
Any of you who make static, or frankly 'pessimistic, world weary' characters, can and will be forced to rewrite. I once had a Staff member make me rewrite ten seperate times. I will gladly make you do a hundred. I do not get bored, I do not get impatient. I have the time.
Pheremones, Telepathy, and other powers with brooad applications will be reigned in and watched closely. None of you have the control to be using these willy nilly.
Characters WILL have concrete weaknesses. These do not necessarily need to involve powers, as personality flaws, and other such concerns can detract. You will be watched to ensure you play your weaknesses.
My villains are watching you. They will get you if you are careless. And on that note. BROTHERHOOD MEMBERS ARE UNDER ORDERS TO BE DISCRETE AND SUBTLE. I DO NOT FUCKING CARE IF YOU ARE EVIL. YOU ARE NOT TO MAKE A RUCKUS IN PUBLIC WITHOUT DAMN GOOD REASON.
Emma, Magnus and the Imperial Knight do not have the time to be cleaning up after you constantly. Failure to comply will be met with stern warnings, then physical reprimand. Further insubordination will be met with brainwashing. If you want to be a pain in the ass, or a psychopath, or anything else that is not the highly professional and effective villainy displayed by people who know the Evil Overlord list, you are hereby more than welcome to make an X-Student. I will cackle with glee. I have to play Magneto, and the Imperial Knight. I want my faction to work like a well trained unit, not to be an exercise in herding cats. Your freedom is to have your own agenda, not to disobey the rules.
A final note. I am not going to babysit people, nor am I going to coddle them. I have roleplayed with most if not all of you for at least a year. I know you have the ability to be competent. Exercise it.
Do people have any other concerns that need to be addressed?
I also feel I should offer a last chance, if people have a fandom they would rather be playing than X-Men/Marvel, and I can get a unified whole, I will attempt to run a forum in that.
So totally since I'm just going to say this now before people go "Oh herding cat like characters go to the X-mansion..."
... The Xavier School for gifted children is a place of LEARNING. of GROWING... We will be patient, we will be kind.. but I can promise your RIGHT NOW that both Heather and I (Xavier equiv and Storm) will not be tolerating a lot of cat-herding either. Maeve is there to help your characters grow, develop and become wonderful human beings... Xavier himself was an incredibly patient man believing in the best of people (in his good times..) and that tradition will contuine.
... however...
I have no problems putting a boot to your backsides and sending you out to Mag's school or letting you go out on your own. I'm a patient woman, I love character development but if you don't WANT to stay at the Xavier mansion and you do things like wonton destruction of property, constantly being a problem socially or say, obvious signs of nare-do-wells, (murder... ) will probably find themselves 'not' welcome at Xaviers...
