Uniform: Black armored body suit that helps him focus his powers, this suit covers his body from his neck all the way down to his feet. It is fitted with a black helmet that covers his face yet still allows him to breath. Essentially it kind of looks like something that came out of a Tron movie without the light disks.

Personality: Ace is a Protector at heart, and means to do well. Not having his actual family with his is something he takes to the heart because he still blames himself for their death. He isn't sure that wound will ever heal. He just hopes that should he meet his family on the other side that they could forgive him for the life he had taken from them. Now happy to be studying and training at the x-mansion he takes being an x-student with pride, along with that he also loves being a rock star. he too takes pride in his ability to help change and form the world not only mutants, but for everyone all around. Though he has had a broken past he aims to make a better future. He is a good person all around, and is willing to get his hands dirty to help a friend. It doesn't really matter to him, not whether it is for a good laugh or if you need someone to back you up in a fight.

History:

Ace’s powers came to him when he hit puberty at the age of 13, already this was a time of his life where he knew he wanted to become a singer in a band. The day that his powers came to be was the day he lost everything; meaning his family, his home and everything he once valued. He lost them by uncontrollably causing a nuclear supernova that created a orb of energy that ended up destroying his home and everyone in it.

Blaming himself for the destruction of his own family, he got a hold of a local crimes dealer named Tsukihime. Tsukihime a member of the Hellfire club was the woman that ended up 'donating' the inhibitor to promising young Maverick, seeing she always tries to 'mark' potential club members. Though the offered inhibitor would not come with direct strings attached, but, as a Hellfire member, she would occasionally 'check in' on Maverick and try to get him into the Club. In doing so she would be the one pointing out to Emma that there is a teen mutant needing training with his powers to be recruited by the X-men, which is how Ace got recruited by the institute.


Having no family at all; Ace was put into the foster care system and was sent to a foster family in Long Beach. Which was far enough from his hometown in San Diego that no one knew him or what he had done to his family. It was here in Long Beach that he made friends and was forced to live with people he didn't know.

Often enough this sometimes just to escape that broken home he was sent to live at he started working at a local shops and places that entertained and eventually recognized for his talents as a singer, and was auditioned at the age of 16 and became the start of his famous lead singer career for a band called “Vital Deduction” through a recording company called Capitol Records.

Using his skills and the collar that had allowed him to lead a life where he couldn’t hurt anyone he was able to hide in the shadows of what was going on with mutants. Accepting what he was and the notion that he finally had something to fight for had influenced his thoughts on the Mutant Registration Act as a serious matter.

At the age of 18 he was already well into his career before he eventually saw life in a bigger picture. Motivated by his fans an those that knew he was different; encouraged him to make a difference, wanting to help change the world so that he could help live the dream that was created by Prof. Charles Xavier. Eventually with help of his inhibitor dealer, he took up with Emma Frost and joined her at the school for the gifted.


So, with that said, he is currently 18 in his senior year at the X-Mansion. He will be graduating from an X-student to an X-trainee, he is a straight A student and his future plans is to not only continue as a rockstar but to also become an X-Men.

Powers: Ace’s power is solar energy manipulation. This means he can manipulate the energy he absorbs by the sun. Using this power, he would be able to transfer sun energy from one object to another. Because of this power to manipulate sun energy he is able to use his ability in other forms and at different strengths depending how much he is holding back. Clearly he restores his energy whenever he is in the sun. When he attacks with an orb or beam his distance of attack is about 150 meters and have his orbs and beams released in a radius of 2 feet in diameter. Because if the collar that he wears, he is in more control of his release of energy which allows him the ability to train with others and not worry about accidently hurting people by going supernova.

However, the more energy he absorbs, the more powerful he gets and the more powerful he gets the less control he has. A great example would be the notion of a rechargeable battery. Once he is fully charged he can shoot orbs and beams from his hands, when he is on empty he can walk around without the collar and pass for a normal human.


Solar Energy Absorption: This allows him to convert sun energy into physical strength, a healing ability (though not as fast as Wolverine’s healing factor it would take a day for a serious injury). Example,if Ace where to get shot in the arm it would take him a day to heal. Lastly, because his powers come from the sun the solar energy absorbed by that will strengthen any other powers he possess. i.e. Solar Supernova.

Solar Supernova: This allows him to unleashes a terrifyingly powerful shockwave or orb of stored energy that tears through anything in its path.

Ace couldn't believe what he was hearing, had he actually obtained a dream that he had since a child? He hoped so, he hoped that if this was a dream he would wake up fast. Someone pinch him now, but he knew that no one would. So he ran his thumb over the keys in one of his pockets to cause a little pain he was quickly reassured that it was not a dream.

“...we know you're different... Special. So what do you say?” it was now or never... opportunities like these never came twice. Looking into that setting sun he realized that it was now that he realized his hell was over. With the setting of a sun, he knew the rise of one would bring him a new fate and before he knew it he gave his answer. “Yes... My answer is yes, I will sign on with your company.”

The application cannot be approved as it stands. There is one major problem, and then some other things that I feel could lead to difficulties for you.

I'll start with the major problem: his powers. I need more precisions before I can let loose a character who can manipulate energy in so many ways.

• Can he automatically transfer kinetic energy directed at him? How fast is the transfer? Can he store the energy, or must he find an outlet immediately?
  
• What is the smallest and largest scale he can manipulate energy on? Can he stop movements on a molecular level? Atomic? Astral?
  
• What is his range, and what are his limits in terms of absorbed energy?
  

A useful reference might be Sebastian Shaw's powers. Ace and him have some common points, though Ace is of course more original.

Finally for the powers: given that Ace has been inhibiting his powers right from the beginning, how trained is he in their use? Or does it just prevent him from going super-nova? This is not directly related to his power-level, but could help with the X-men's position towards his powers.

Now to the other points:

I like the rockster and the Californian background, but have some qualms about how it all fits in his 6 years on the street. Bluntly put, I just don't see how he can simultaneously start completely without resources on the west coast, be recruited by the X-men and become a famous singer all within his teen years. Some choices will have to be made. Making him be recruited by the X-men right after the explosion for example would fix things. Basically, choose two out of 'X-student', 'lived in the slums during teens' and 'rockstar' and it should work.

Also, more as a reminder than anything else: X-students, unless they apply to become X-trainees, graduate at the latest the year they turn 19. IC, the school year is about to end. I am not sure what that would imply for Ace, but some clarification or changes would be helpful: in particular, at what age did he enter the institute, and what is his status in terms of graduation/classes/grades/future plans?

Fleshing out the personality would be helpful, as one sentence is just not sufficient to get a good feeling for your character.

For the history, there is an inconsistency between the 'hometown' field and what's written in your history. Also, power-inhibitors are not easy to come by with... that is, unless you attract enough attention to be forcefully registered.

Last, could you review your RP sample. The punctuation is off here and there and the single paragraph is a bit hard to read.

Ok I modified a few things, and changed his powers a little so that they didn't match Sebastian Shaw's because I want Ace to continue being an original character. I did my best with what you asked me to change, so please look it over and if i need to change some more things let me know.

There are two questions I want answered, and one cosmetic change to be made before we can approve this character.

I'll start with the small edit:

We think this would fit better in the power-section than the history, even if it explains the whole inhibitor business. If you could move this paragraph, that would be great.

Now to the two questions:

First, who is this mutant donating an inhibitor to a perfect stranger and without asking anything in return? I understand he's a criminal leader and would hence have access to the technology, and that his own mutant status would make him gain interest in Maverick, who has a lot of raw potential. But somehow, the idea of him not asking for anything in return feels awkward.

If you want an easy fix with no direct strings attached, I can propose that my character Tsukihime as the person 'donating' the inhibitor to promising young Maverick. She also comes from the West coast, and always tries to 'mark' potential club members. The offered inhibitor would not come with direct strings attached, but, as a Hellfire member, she would occasionally 'check in' on Maverick and try to get him into the Club. I was also thinking that she would be the one pointing out to Emma that there is a teen mutant needing training with his powers to be recruited by the X-men, which would clarify how Maverick got recruited by the institute. You don't have to take me on this offer, but something needs to be done about this donated inhibitor and about the X-men recruiting.

Second, while I really like the new set of powers from a functionality perspective, the names rub me off the wrong way. They imply things that, as a physicist, seem to me overly complicated.

You see, from a functional perspective, Ace just stores solar energy, and releases it in various forms (energy blast, healing and strength). While it is true that that solar energy was created through nuclear fusion in the sun, there is no reason Ace would store it that way once it arrives into his body. And actually, it's very unlikely, as nuclear fusion requires high-temperature plasma. Also, it requires this extra power of Fusion Manipulation to avoid killing people off with radiations.

So I am going to propose to you to just drop the words 'fusion' and 'nuclear'. Supernova already explains very well what his attack looks like, and unless it also delivers deadly radiation in addition to the energy blast, the extra adjectives make it less rather than more accurate. Similarly, the first powers would more precisely reflect the effect of the power by calling them 'Solar Energy Absorption' and 'Energy Release/Empowerment'.

A last thing is that I need a regeneration limit, as he cannot heal faster than say, Wolverine. There has to be a point where he reasonably depletes his stock of solar energy healing himself, and cannot regain solar energy quickly enough to continue full regeneration. As a rule of thumb, previous characters with such a regeneration powers stored one full heal worth and took a full day to recover that energy. A full heal means healing from death to perfect health. Obviously other wounds would require a lot less energy to heal.

Just make sure the form is readable. You didn't remove your old explanation for the inhibitor. Also, please paraphrase the new explanation. Finally, while you did copy the power explanation into the power section, the history still contains explanations of his powers which should be removed.

Oh, and remove the 'Energy empowerment' section of the powers. As far as I can tell, Maverick does not need to block any radiations, as he isn't emitting any. He just stores or unleashes energy.

Introduce Tsukihime as a Hellfire club member. It'll make the next bit clearer to read.

I would rather not see this. Weather resistance/fire proofness is not particularly related to his powers. I think just removing this paragraph altogether would be fine, as he already has a fair number of things he can do with his powers.
