Ororo Munroe
Codename
Storm
Nicknames:
Oro, 'Ro, Stormy
Gender:
Female
Age:
It's not polite, but somewhere in the late 20s, early 30s is probably a good ball park "guess" for how old Storm is.
D.O.B.
(?? We'll just say August 14)
Species:
Human with a side of priestess, goddess and mutant genes. (She's really a "Mutant" but at the point your using labels lots of things can you know be used... )
---
Occupation:
Weather Goddess in Africa, Gardener.. occasional X-men, Professor and mentor (and once in a while? A thief. Girls gotta keep in practice after all?)
Canon or Original:
Canon
Mutations:
Storm has four major "mutations". The first is the most used (and most obvious) which is her ability to manipulate and control weather and various forces on the earth. The second is she has a deep magical potential, one that makes her possible to get training to actually use magical forces not unlike some of the more magical types of marvel. Storm has a link with the earth that gives her a heads up to a lot of things (See below). Finally Storm has a lot of resistance both to temperature and to avoid telepathic battles, both because of her strong will and her affinity for electricity.
- Magical Potential- as of yet, Storm's "Magical Potential" is just that. Potential. She has no training, nor does she seem to acknowledge that potential as anything more then "oh it's there."
- Resistance to temperature- Hot, Cold... it takes some serious extremes to get Storm to feel bothered by weather.
- Telepathy/mind bending- Storm is one stubborn woman, for good, for ill... She also has electricity frequently thrumming through her veins, making even the best of telepaths a good struggle before they can even begin to effect Storm.
-The Weather.
Storm is intrinsically tied to the weather systems of Earth (and as it happens, other planetary systems as well- but mostly Earth). She has trained herself to have precise and powerful control over the weather- which includes air, water and electricity. She can create powerful storms, or summon sunny days. She has been known to use her powers on smaller scales too, such as the air in someone's lungs or putting pressure on the inner ear for intense pain. She can ride on the winds and use the air currents to sustain herself (and others) in flight. At the molecular level she can manipulate water and temperature to control all kinds of weather related goodies. There's very little about the weather (or things in nature that are affected by weather) that Storm can't manipulate or control.
The Earth Link:
Storm's mutant powers has created a psychic bond between herself and the primal life force of Earth's biosphere. This bond with the Earth and apparently the entire universe, gives Storm spiritual and material sustenance with an almost empathic sense towards living thing. Storm also possesses the ability to sense and detect life force and she has once sensed a dying tree in the Xavier Mansion. She has once sensed a snowball being tossed and sense the Blackbird cutting the atmosphere even though the distance between them was thousands of miles. She can sense any natural phenomena including earthquakes, storms, etc.. Storm can sense movements in the air or water mediums.
Classification:
Alpha (with Omega Potential)
Equipment:
lock picks, a staff and / or large knife (as needed)... lightning bolts...
Uniform:
Oro's chosen uniform this year is a black pant suit. The suit is Skin tight (it's annoying to fly in the wind with fabric flapping every which way and showing things that are private... No skirts here boys!) The suit covers her from ankle to wrist. She wears short black ankle boots in plain leather with a good, solid heel and steel in the toes. (Hey if she kicks someone it's going to hurt.) The top portion is shoulder-less with a long white "scarf" top that connects the sleeves to the rest of the outfit. Golden trim decorates her lower back and upper torso (that's right perverts, her boobs okay?) She's got cleavage- she's a well fed, well rounded woman after all- but she's not showing them off so much as wearing what's comfortable. She has a "cape" that is far more like a shawl in style and size, clasped at the wrists and only expanding enough to act as a sort of mini parachute and for looks, and less for getting caught in jet turbines or tornadoes.
Skills:
Lock picking, Sleight of hand, Pick Pocketing, Gardening, Hand to Hand Combat, Knife and Firearms as well as piloting aircraft and keeping an eye on the weather. Storm also has strong natural leadership skills with the ability to discerning strategy, tactics and field commanding. She is also multi-lingual, and is fluent in English, Arabic, Swahili, Russian, Japanese, Wakandan, Yoruba and more.
(?) Indomitable Will. No one says that Oro has no willpower. She's one of the most controlled, stubborn women alive.
Weaknesses:
Claustrophobia- Do to having been trapped under rubble for three days near her dying Mother, Storm has post-traumatic-stress issues when in small places that bring those memories flooding back. Perhaps worse then normal claustrophobia that just brings fear of tight spaces, Storm tends to loose control and blast her way to open air... Bad for everyone around her! (She is okay in most situations, like.. subway tunnels.. star ships... but... Throw in sudden things like oh, being stuck in an elevator.. under rubble.. and all bets are OFF.
Emotional Influence: Storm's ability to manipulate weather is strongly tied to her emotions. She gets mad, the weather gets mad with her, she gets sad, the weather gets sad with her. As a result, she has trained herself to have control over her emotions and her will- (see Indomitable will). Duly note that she's not a machine, and even those with REALLY GOOD CONTROL can loose it- or have emotions or be sad... And sometimes even Willpower isn't enough to stop feeling. (Bottle it up too long....)
Physical Condition: Storm is still limited by her body's limits of needing sleep, food, and so forth to channel the massive amounts of energy to control and direct weather. She's been known to push those limits- but it can (and almost has in the past) resulted in some pretty good brushes with death. (Knock her out- no more weather problems!)
Respect for the Planet: Storm respects the natural boundaries of the planet. A storm here with lots of rain has to come from somewhere that is now unnaturally dry.. She tries to, with in relative reason, keep her weather manipulations to things locally proper- and not do anything too crazy, like Sub Zero temperatures in Southern California... (Cruel and Unusual punishment to oranges and strawberries alike)
---
Motivation, and Why:
When Storm was younger, wilder, she did things that most wild teenagers with not much to hold them at home do. She raised hell. In a way her adult years have been both a way of giving back to the Earth and People she gave hell too... It's also her way of snubbing the people who thought she would only ever be a thief. When she was a Goddess of Weather and her people counted on her, Storm came to realise that everyone, in their own way, depended on other people. Yes she has great powers, but with them come a greater responsibility. To do less would be to insult the people who believed in her.
Loyalty:
X-men, Africa
Physical Appearance:
Oro is 5'11" tall and weighs approximately 127 pounds. She has white hair, blue eyes and chocolate colored skin of her ancestors. She dresses in loose fitting shirts and jeans, when not in uniform and sometimes, when it pleases her, she dresses up. Storm wears her long white hair long to her waist and her blue eyes sometimes turn white or cloudy when she's accessing her powers over nature. She also usually always has a composed sort of nature to her, calm and serene.
History:
Ororo was a little hellion growing up on the streets of Cairo. She had been born, once, in America... but it was Cairo where her parents where killed and it was Cairo's streets that raised her to be a thief and a smart mouthed kid. Her life was one big ole adventure, one scrape to another scrape to another... Then she killed.
In a lot of ways, that was one of the second real "Turning" points in her life. The first had been the death of her parents which had left her an orphan with claustrophobia and nothing but her mother's ruby... (Though the argument could be made that one of those turning points had been picking Charles Xavier's pockets when she was fifteen.) But for Oro, it was killing that made her realize something.
She never wanted to kill again.
It was that moment when the adventure wasn't really an adventure anymore. She hadn't had powers and she had killed him in self defense. It didn't matter. She had felt the life slip from his body and realised she was a killer. It was a feeling that haunted her so much she ran until she walked, until she stumbled- wandering over the Sahara Desert. Her mutant ability decided to come upon her there, in the desert. No doubt saving her life, and her sanity. Her mutant powers, though at the time she thought they were goddess blessed, gave her a reason to keep going in a cruel world. She found her way to her ancestor's homeland in the Kilimanjaro Valley on the Serengeti Plain in Kenya. She was taken in by an elderly tribal woman named Ainet, who taught her how to be responsible with her powers and how to control her emotions.
Soon, She was the hero, their goddess, their savior in a place where a weather witch was a godsend. It was fun. It was work. It grew her up- a lot- but it was fun too. There was family. There was celebrations in the sadness. She was... needed. She had other adventures, other meetings with Charles Xavier, before he called her and asked her to join with him in the X-men.
That was another turning point in her life. It was hard, in it's own way, to leave her home and her people in Africa. Yet it was also, in a way, fate. She could help so many more people in America with Charles Xavier and his school for people like her. Even the wild ones who reminded her so much of herself in her youth. She had new adventures, new friends and new experiences to explore. She even had her own little garden and, at times, serenity. Assuming people STOP BLOWING UP HER HOME....
RP Sample:
Oro brushed a hand through her hair, pulling it absently away from her face into a high pony tail. She loved her hair when it was loose and down so the wind could play with it. However when the day started with herding students into classrooms to learn to do more then punch their problems away- a woman simply needed her hair up and out of the way. "All the better to see you with, my dear" She muttered at the mirror. She smiled to her reflection. It was still so chaotic as they tried to piece together what was broken and torn away by years, anger, fears- yet it was still the same. Teenagers pressing limits to see how far they could go before someone stomped on their heels. Adults trying to figure out how to balance the power and protect what was theirs but not give up any of their own freedoms.
Just another day at the mansion.
She turned from the mirror when her hair was up in a high pony tail. She grabbed her suit jacket and slipped in on over the purple and pink flower camisole. The navy of the jacket and slacks hid most of her riot of color, but it was enough she still felt like she was her under all the professionalism. She schooled her expression into one that didn't reflect her inner amusement. Slowly her emotions followed, calming into a deep, quiet pool. She waited until the inner peace had been achieved before exiting her room and starting down the stairs. Her blue eyes scanning the halls at all the new fingerprints, and.. other... objects that tended to go with a school- regardless of the newness of it. The children made it home as fast as they could.
