Distinguishing Features: A few tattoos on his body. Mostly tribal tattoos stretching from his back and over his chest and down his right arm.

Personality: Someone who's lonely on the inside, but has a hard time showing it on the outside. He's been by himself and shuffled around from one spot to the next for so long that he has a hard time letting anyone truly get close to him. This also effects how he uses his powers and for those that know he actually has powers, he tries to make it a point of respect over intimidation. But as a disputed wise man once said, "It's better to be feared than loved." He often hangs out with a less than reputable crowd because for the most part, no one cares that he's genetically different than them as long as they have the same goals or mentality. A bit standoffish, but when one's bounced from one orphanage to the next and then from one foster family to the next, what can one expect?
As one can expect, he's often reluctant to let people in, but if someone can manage to become part of his inner circle, or he develops a forming relationship or friendship with them, he'll more than likely do whatever he can to help them.
Family: Kane Blake Father- Status unknown
Karen Blake- Mother- Status Unknown. He's an orphan. He never met them. Given up soon after birth.
History: Not much is to be said about his family. He never had a chance to know them. Derrick grew up in an orphanage and eventually was bounced from one place to another. Starting off with Foster families and then after his powers had manifested he was bounced from one Orphanage to another in order to make the other children a bit more comfortable. No one truly knew he had any powers at first when they manifested, but when after a mass series of strange occurrences that some thought were the result of old ghost stories, or some other seemingly weird phenomena, he was shipped off with one excuse or another to cover the transfer.
Being shipped off from one place to the next had something of an effect on him mentally. Always feeling like no one really wanted him, or even wanted to get to know him at all obviously had a way of effecting his outlook on life. So he escaped into libraries and as an extension, books, to try and fill a gap inside of him. Through reading he learned a mass of different things having to do with the super natural and then having to do with his powers specifically. After watching what other heroes, or even villains were capable of, he used some of the time he had to himself to try and develop his powers so that the children that viewed him as the weird loner child wouldn't pick on him as much. Or at least he could get them back without anyone ever knowing it was him.
Growing up he always had a mind for science, and physics as well as quantum physics were fields which he avidly applied himself. This is how he learned to manipulate the powers he had developed in different ways. Making it seem as if he were capable of far greater things than what limits he was initially given. He learned to apply his talent in the field of telekinetics in manner of mock super strength after having been literally backed into a corner and striking one of the children out of rage to defend himself. At that moment when his mind was frantic and his anger lashing out, he expelled a telekinetic energy burst that sent the child backwards and injured the youth to a good degree with just one simple looking punch to the chest. That was when the other children left him alone. They had witnessed with their own eyes how powerful he could be if backed into a corner and didn't want to be on his bad side.
After that day he started looking up news footage of other super powered beings in action and the kinds of powers that they employed within the footage. If he could emulate their abilities he practiced them with his kinetic abilities. In time, between his telekinetics and his telepathy he was able to create mental illusions that he had more power than he was blessed with. Conning people when he ran into the occasional point of trouble. Which more often than he had liked, resulted in a confrontation with another mutant. Or at least to his knowledge he thought they were a mutant. It wasn't until a fight he had with someone that had actual super strength that he discovered his third dormant ability. The power to absorb and redirect kinetic energy. While practiced with the other two, this ability was raw and greatly untapped. When he was struck he flew backwards and absorbed the energy from not only the initial blow, but from the point of impact when he slammed through a brick wall. The energy welled up inside of him and he didn't know what to do with it.
All he could do was hope that the energy could be channeled outwards like a telekinetic blast. So focusing his mind on discharging this new energy in his form he pointed a balled up fist at his opponent and did his best to discharge. The ending result was an almost concussive plasmatic energy burst that was fired off. Due to his body not knowing how to handle the recoil from the blast, his arm jutted upwards and sent the blast just a small measure above his intended target. The brick wall in the alleyway where they had managed to end up in their fight exploded furiously before the debris smashed into Derrick's opponent with a good measure of force and knocked him unconscious. All Derrick could do was watch with a great point of amazement as the glow around his right hand had begun to dim and then fade out all together. The low brow people that had set the fight up to begin with had given him the name Exponential. Something of a gag name as they didn't know just how many powers or even how powerful he was. In time the name was shortened to simply X, as it was faster to say. Only those in the underground fight circuit really know who he is, or as a better explanation, some of the abilities he's demonstrated.
A lot of people lost money that night when his final ability truly took hold. As a result, one of the few people he ever really let in to his life and his world was killed. The police called it a random accident, but Derrick knew better. His fiance was killed because a lot of people were expecting him to lose that fight and bet against him. His talent for mimicking other powers has, in a way put him in opposition to the new Registration Act. How do you make a list of everything you can do when according to you, you can do anything? It might be for other people, but he doesn't feel it's for him. Especially for the fact that he feels he might be seen as some sort of serious threat if real attention was ever brought to him. While he has no one in his life now, that doesn't mean he plans for things to stay that way. And how safe of a life can you provide for someone when you're always thought of as a threat? He lost one person due to his mistakes and bad decisions, he's made it a mental note never to have that happen again. Although he's against the Registration act, he's not one to actively do harm to other people over it. He's even heard a few rumors and thought of at least checking out the school in West Chester he's heard about just to be around "his own kind", but how realistic can a place full of mutants that actually get along and live together in one location be? He was seen as a threat to someone's business and lost someone close to him. An entire location full of super powered beings must obviously be seen as a threat to someone, somewhere.

Powers:
Telekinetics- Although it can be a standard power for those with mental abilities, Derrick has learned to use it in different ways. He can cloak himself in a shield while fighting to give himself the illusion that he has some form of invulnerability. That same cloak can be used to simulate the power of flight. Simply lifting himself into the air and controlling his direction and speed. The same aura is used to emulate super speed. Lifting himself slightly off of the ground as he pumps his legs and moves his body forward mentally to make it seem as if he can travel distances in a short span of time due to incredible physical prowess. Super strength is emulated by giving off a telekinetic discharge at the point of impact from his fist with an object. Causing a reaction that normally throws most objects backwards a large distance. Or he'll lift something with his mind while touching it to give the illusion that he's picked something large up and can throw it at someone with just his strength alone. He's also been known to use his kinetic ability to seem as if he has some power over the wind. Causing a small scale telekinetic tornado to pick up dust and other small objects that could be seen whirling about in a funnel before sending it out at an adversary. He also mimics Sonic abilities by yelling at the top of his lungs and using his telekinetic abilities to force the ground to shake by slamming telekinetic force against it before directing a hand at an opponent and attempting to push them over with that same telekinetic energy.
Illusion- A power he often employs to do his best to make others think that he has access to powers that he actually does not have. Giving him the appearance that he can regenerate, teleport, or some other such power he does not have. He has struggled with this power from time to time. Always having to keep his mind focused. If he starts to drift and imagine things, sometimes this power sets in and whatever he seems to be daydreaming about springs to life. Causing him to quite obviously pay attention, but if in a crowd, he may have some sort of explaining to do. Depending on the crowd. Sometimes such daydreaming can lead to trouble from the local authorities. Derrick often explains them as a malfunctioned magic trick or perhaps that the person's eyes were playing tricks on them. But his illusions are also used when he plays some of his instruments in front of someone he feels comfortable with, to add a bit of flare to the performance.
Kinetic absorbing and redistribution of energy- Derrick has the ability to absorb force thrown at him and store it in his body for later use, or discharge it as a plasmatic energy blast. Even if he's using his "aura of invulnerability" this power can be used. Though he can seem invulnerable he still feels pain from the impact if hit hard enough, or the heat from a source of fire or electricity or some other ability. Examples of this would be Bishop, Strong Guy, or when Cannonball absorbed the energy from Guardian's punch. Though Derrick can do something to that nature, it does leave him somewhat damaged from the force of impact. Afraid of how this power would effect his day to day life, he often keeps his distance from people. Not knowing how their body would react to the exchange of kinetic energy. He's not quite sure if the transfer drains more than just the energy presented, having only used it in combat. And even then he's used it sparringly. This effects his wardrobe. Almost forcing him to wear long sleeves all year around to avoid skin on skin contact with people.
Skills:
Playing guitar, piano, drums, saxophone. He's something of a musician from having a lot of alone time growing up and having to do something to pass time. As well as training in the martial arts resulting in rigorous self instruction through manuals and books. Applied through a mass of street fights

Role Play Sample:
Derrick had floated a good ways above the city. His eyes flickered back and forth between his natural coloring and an electric blue glow, just moments before the glow had won out against his natural coloring. At first the blue glow took over the brown, and then quickly spread outward until it had consumed all of his eyes. If someone were to actually be able to look at him, they wouldn't be able to distinguish where he was looking unless he turned his head to look directly at something, or someone. His body slightly bobbed up and down ad his toes pointed somewhat towards the ground. His arms on the other hand had folded themselves up in front of his chest as he let his hair cascade over the sides of his face.
He was in deep thought and at the time didn't want to be disturbed. The best way he could think of to not be disturbed was to be somewhere, where pretty much no one could get ahold of you. He didn't know why he did it to himself. Over and over again he played the events of that night in his head. The bets that were made, all the money that was placed and all of the hype that was played up about both fighters. He knew the other guy had true super strength and was a local leg breaker for some underground thugs, but a guy had to make a living right? He figured his telekinetic emulation of super strength would be enough to get him by in the fight.
As he was recalling that night in his head, he slowly pulled his lids over his eyes to cover the glow they were giving off. Some nosey person might be star gazing or something to that effect and decide to see what the two blue orbs close to each other were. But it seemed all wrong. He was winning for a while. And then he slipped up and weakened his shield too much to project his telekinetic energy through his fist. Only problem was, he missed when he punched. That was his almost fatal flaw. His fist went through a wall while the other guy hit him with a hook to his ribs. Derrick inhaled sharply, but something was wrong. Something was different. He stumbled backwards and felt like he wanted to throw up before he fell to the ground. The other guy must have smelled blood, because he looked on with a smirk and started to calmly walk over to finish things. Derrick stumbled and tried to get away as fast as he could, but he couldn't get over the well of energy that he felt inside of him.
The rules of the fight said any power that was available to either fighter. That much came easily to Derrick's head, but he didn't know what to do about the power he felt inside of him. Maybe if he channeled it into another punch? No. He missed just a moment ago and ended up the way he was. Maybe if he acted like he had a sonic attack. Throw the other guy back and try to at least buy himself enough time to at least stand up straight and try to figure out his next move in this fight. All he remembered was opening his mouth and screaming like he had always done when pulling off that false power of his. Doing his best to channel his new energy through his right arm. But something was different. The more he concentrated the more his right fist gave off a deep blue glow and before he knew it he had fired off some sort of blast. His opponent was just as surprised as he was as he didn't do much to try to get away from the bricks exploding outwards from the wall Derrick had blasted with his misfire.
The concussive force from the bricks rammed into his opponent's head and dropped him in the blink of an eye. Derrick looked at his opponent fall over and then at his own hand as he watched the glow from it die out. How could brick explode? How could brick even seem to melt? It would take something very hot to accomplish something like that. He watched the hole in the wall smolder a bit before it cooled. After, his attention fell to his downed opponent as the witnesses that were on his side cheered in his favor. But he couldn't think of that now. All he could think about was that he felt like crap and needed to get patched up. After getting his money for the fight he made his way to the hospital to do just that. Only problem was that while he was getting pain medication and getting patched up, there was no one at his apartment to protect his fiance. So when they had finally released him from the hospital and he went home, he was taken completely by surprise as he watched the medics cart out a body in a bag. The police tried to hold him back, but they wouldn't be able to. He knew. He couldn't explain it, but he knew it was her. His lids ripped open in protest to the past as they quickly took in what was around him to force him to be back in the present. His eyes glowing a bit brighter before he'd float over towards a nearby roof top and drag his hand down his face. It was a day he'd make sure to never forget. And a defining point in his life.
